The attraction of “Latinx” is that it sidesteps the pronunciation quandary established by President Obama. He code-shifted and prnounced “latina” as “ladina” to earn progressive brownie points. Some progressives feel uncomfortable stooping to such a low point as to defer to the Spanish pronunciation and so “Latinx” is attractive because they can still virtue signal without compromising their heritage of English pronunciation. A win-win for that cohort, so I don’t expect that behavior to change.

Think of these folks as middle school children and it explains a lot.

In the video they say the Latino stereotype is based on Mexico. That doesn’t go far enough. It’s based on Chicanos. Here in Texas our Mexican immigrants and The Texas founding families of Mexican descent are very different.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I am Hispanic and have been saying this for a long time. It is pure cultural imperialism. Spanish is a gendered language; they are trying to force it to conform to their norms. If they wanted to be gender neutral they could just say Latin. they could refer to Latin people or Latin food. LatinX has nothing to do with inclusion and is all about enforcing their will on others.

I guess we should start calling everyone who speak some form of English, Englishx instead of of English, Canadian, American, etc., etc. They are just trying to make a group out of everyone who speaks Spanish but if you consider Spanish is a Romance language then you should include actual Spain natives as well as Italians or any other country whose language is rooted in Latin.
